UNIT 1 RESEARCH
The first phase of the major project involved research, analysing case studies and finding the context and content for our investigation.

We began by mapping out familiar and unfamiliar visuals as per our Platform Theme and making connections between our research.

The next step was to create visuals for our textual research. I created 5 visuals : a chaotic pattern, a rangoli design, 2 typographic patterns and a black out of hoardings seen at an intersection in Mumbai city.

REFLECTIONS:
Over the initial weeks of research, we gathered a lot of knowledge but were facing problems expressing our thoughts graphically. This issue was addressed in this workshop. The graphical forms were not perfect nor were they directly related to my research. But, it was a starting point for the creation of more visuals.

The next step was to give context to the work.

This exercise helped us branch out in different directions and explore the possibilities. Later, we chose a word that stood out and expressed it with 2D visuals, sound, video or photographs.

Next, we had to break down our work in smaller sections and refine the elements. I chose to work with Indian scripts and creating symbols.

The project was shaping up. The context was to develop symbolic landmarks for the residents of a city to instil a sense of belonging or ownership. I decided to create the landmarks with typography and chose to design Hindi and Tamil script.
